Leon Beland

Leon W. Beland, long - time Nowata resident, passed away November 17 at home surrounded by family. Leon was born May 16, 1945 to Louis E. and Ruth Williams Beland in Ft. Smith, AR. He married Marcia Valentine on October 27, 1990. Leon played football for the University of Nebraska and the University of Arkansas, graduating with a bachelors degree in business administration from the University of Arkansas. He enjoyed coon hunting, and participated as a contestant in rodeos for many years, winning numerous titles. Later, he raised bucking bulls and trading horses was always a passion. Leon is survived by his wife, Marcia, of the family home; 3 children, Brittany Jackson and husband Bill of Ft. Smith, AR., Brooke Beland of Arkoma, OK., Blaine Beland of Ft. Smith, AK; 2 step children, Angie Harmon and husband Rick of Talala, OK., and Shane Valentine of Pomona, KS., 2 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren and 3 step-great -grandchildren; 4 sisters and 2 brothers; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 nephews and 1 niece. Funeral Services will be held November 20 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Nowata. Interment will follow at Ball cemetery in Childers, OK. Arrangements have been entrusted to Benjamin Funeral Service. Online condolences may be left at www.honoringmemories.com.
