Benjamin Funeral Service ~ Nowata, Oklahoma.......................... Funeral services for Lester Wayne Haggard are 10:00 A.M., Saturday, October 31, 2015 at the Assembly of God Church in Oologah with Pastor Kent Jensen officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Talala. Family will be receiving friends Friday, October 30, 2015 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 p.m., at Benjamin Funeral Home in Nowata. Lester Wayne Haggard passed away October 29, 2015 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, MO. He was born March 20, 1939 in Thomas, OK to Lester and Christina (Switzer) Haggard. Wayne graduated from Butler High School, Butler, Oklahoma and continued his education at Southwestern State University in Weatherford where he earned his Bachelor's degree and later completed all his requirements for a Master's degree. On July 6, 1963 he married the love of his life Floretta Faubion in Custer City, Oklahoma. He taught school in Oologah and was an educator for over thirty years. Wayne enjoyed traveling to the Rocky Mountains in Colorado where he and Floretta would hunt for different rocks and he taught geology of the Rockies while there. He enjoyed farming and being outdoors but his family was his love. His wife, daughter, grandchildren and family held a special place in his heart and he will be missed by all who knew him. Wayne is survived by his wife Floretta of the home; his daughter, Lori Hotfelt and husband Kenneth of Talala; siblings Lonnie Haggard and wife Connie of Butler, Oklahoma, and Ramona Cox and husband Calvin of Hollister, Missouri; two grandchildren, Lachelle Eckhart and husband Dawson of Oologah and Kaleb Hotfelt of Talala. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Curtis Haggard. Arrangements have been entrusted to Benjamin Funeral Service. Online condolences may be left at www.honoringmemories.com.
