Lyle Sallee

March 8, 1926 — September 5, 2012

Lyle Dwain Sallee, 86, passed away September 5, 2012. Born March 8, 1926 near Moline, Kansas to Carl and Dessie Sallee, Lyle moved with his family to Sedan, Kansas when he was eleven. A resident of Bartlesville, Oklahoma at the time of his death, Lyle also lived in Ft. Smith, Arkansas and Arkansas City, Kansas. During World War II, Lyle served his country as a member of the 42nd Division (Rainbow) Company in the European theater, stepping back on American soil on July 4, 1946 after earning a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. He returned to Sedan, Kansas where one of several jobs was driving a school bus. On the first day of school his first passenger was the new fourth grade teacher, Shirley Sneller. They married on June 1, 1947. Shirley survives to cherish his memory and their friendship of 65 years. Remembered by his family for his ornery sense of humor and corny sayings, Lyle was also a role model for steadfast loyalty and service to neighbors and community. A member of Oak Park United Methodist Church, he was dedicated to the work of the Helping Hands Ministry Team, choosing action and response to needs as the deepest expression of his faith. He and Shirley spent some time as snowbirds in Mesa, Arizona and also used their RV as a home while volunteering with Habitat for Humanity. While Lyle loved participating in sports, fishing, singing, browsing in the hardware store and collecting friends at places like the doughnut shop, his primary focus was always family. Lyle spent most of his professional career in the credit bureau business, retiring as the CEO and President of the Credit Bureau of Ft. Smith, Arkansas. His participation and leadership in the Associated Credit Bureaus of America took him to all parts of the United States. Preceded in death by his parents, sister Wanda and brother Darrel, Lyle is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley; daughter Kay of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; son David and wife Mary of Liberty, Missouri; grandson Andrew and wife Emily of Platte City, Missouri; grandson Patrick of Kansas City, Missouri; five great-grandchildren: Andrew's children Graham, Benjamin and Anna Marie, Patrick's children Avery and Makenna Kay; sister Mary and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Sunday, September 9, 5:00 - 7:00 pm at Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. A celebration of Lyle's life will be held Monday, September 10, 11:00 am at Oak Park United Methodist Church in Bartlesville. Burial will be Tuesday, September 11, 3:30 pm at Mount Moriah Terrace Park in Kansas City, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to Oak Park United Methodist Church in Bartlesville or Elder Care of Bartlesville.
