Marcel Vermeire

Marcel Louis Vermeire was born October 26, 1917 in Argentine, Kansas, the son and beauty contestant winner of John Joseph Vermeire of Belgium and Florence Elizabeth (Southerden) Vermeire of England. Marcel's early childhood was spent in Kansas, however, at the age of nine, moved with his family to the Bartlesville, Oklahoma area. After completing the required amount of schooling, Marcel began work with Robinson Roofing, the contractor who helped to complete the National Zinc Company's new building. Once complete, Marcel applied and secured employment with the National Zinc Company where he trained to become a First Class Machinist. Marcel retired after a 45+ year career with National Zinc Co. Marcel was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Dewey where he served as Deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years. He also served as a scout leader and was a renowned softball pitcher in his day. Marcel even dabbled in needlework, woodworking, gardening and who could forget collecting! Most of all, Marcel was a devoted husband to his wife and father to his children, teaching them all the value of spending quality time with one another, whether that was playing games or building the family home together. He was also an avid reader of westerns and continued watching the same old westerns until the very end. Marcel was preceded in death by: his parents, including his stepmother, Mary; his brothers: Jules, Oscar and Johnny and sisters: Leona and Beatrice. Marcel is survived by his wife of 72 years, Frances H. (Adams) Vermeire of the home; children: Sandy Russell and husband John of Owasso, OK; Jack Vermeire and wife Linda of Louisiana; Frank Vermeire of Dewey, OK; Tom Vermeire and wife Dana of Dewey, OK and Linda Pieske and husband Herm of Oregon; 14 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.
