Marion Walter "Sonny" Parrett passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at the Jane Phillips Nowata Health center. He was born November 25, 1933 in Ruby, OK to Maude M. (Shipley) and Bill F. Parrett. Sonny was a lifelong resident of the Nowata area. He received his education in the Ruby and the Childers schools. Sonny served his country as a member of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was well known for his annual auctions at the Nowata County Fairgrounds and for his prowess as a horse and cattle trader and harness maker. Sonny spent his younger days following the rodeo circuit as a bulldogger. He enjoyed basketball, poker & solitaire and pony-pulls. Sonny also delighted in playfully picking on his nieces and nephews. Sonny is survived by his life time partner, Sue Inman; two children, David Parrett and wife Beth of Piedmont, OK., Clifford Parrett and wife Annie of Jones, OK; two brothers, Melvin Ray Parrett and wife Barbara of Nowata, Jim Parrett and wife Pat of Nowata; a sister in law, Betty Parrett of Nowata, several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Charles Parrett; a niece, Tammie Collier. Funeral services for Sonny are 10:00 A.M., Saturday, March 1, 2014 at the Benjamin Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Dean Bridges officiating. Interment will follow at Martin Cemetery in Childers.
