Mary Margret Akers, 85, of Delaware, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2024, in Tulsa, Oklahoma at Hillcrest Medical Center South. She was born on July 21, 1938, in Ponca City, Oklahoma, to Lemuel Rhodd and Iva Jean (Littlestandingbuffalo) Rhodd.
Mary grew up in Ponca City and graduated from Chilocco Indian school in Anadarko, OK. She moved to the Nowata area after she met Joe Akers & later marring him. Mary worked for Marcus Mfg. for many years in Nowata, OK, and managed Akers Dozer Service from their home in Delaware, Oklahoma.
Mary liked to have a good time and was a very fun-loving mother to her children while they were growing up. The family enjoyed doing outdoor activities such as camping, fishing, and little league baseball, as well as going to rodeos. Mary enjoyed playing Rummy, Bingo, Wahoo, and Poker. She also enjoyed trips to the casino. Mary will be deeply missed by her family and her friends.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents: Lemuel and Iva LittlestandingBuffalo Rhodd; her spouse: Joe Akers; her son: Floyd “Dean” Akers; her grandson: Jeremy Akers; and her siblings: Carlton Rhodd, Vernon Rhodd, Pete Rhodd, Penny Rhodd, Lemuel Rhodd, and Cecilia Howard and a daughter in law Janetta Simpson Akers.
Those left to cherish the memory of Mary include her children: Anita Robertson and husband, David of Delaware, OK, Steven Akers of Nowata, OK; her siblings: Douglas Rhodd of Ponca City, OK, Sharon Dawson of Ponca City, OK, Hank Rhodd of Ponca City, OK and Benjamin Zaitshix of Ponca City, OK, her aunt: Esteline Warrior .6 Granchildren,several great grandchildren and 3 greatgreat grandchildren as well as several nieces, nephews, friends and Queenie her fur baby.
A memorial service for Mary will be held on Sunday, April 7, 2024, at the Benjamin Funeral Service Chapel in Nowata, OK with Pastors Brenton and Carla Carney officiating.
