Mary Boggs

November 20, 1932 — March 11, 2019

Mary "Carman" Dougherty was born in Cherryvale, Kansas on November 20, 1932. She was the daughter of James Ross Dougherty and Cleta (Wantland) Dougherty. She moved to Bartlesville with her family when she was a child, where she received her education, graduating high school in 1950.
Carman met her husband-to-be, William Lee "Bill" Boggs, in Bartlesville. He had just returned to his hometown after having completed his Marine Corps enlistment. Carman and Bill began dating and shortly thereafter, they were married in Bartlesville in 1950 where they made their home and they had their first child, Michael, in 1952.
Bill and Carman's next two children, David and Steven ("Bud"), were born while they were stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas, followed by the birth of their only daughter, Tamara, after the growing family was transferred to Fort Lewis, Washington. Their fifth child, Joseph, was born while the family was stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia.
Carman and Bill saw much of the country with Bill's many duty assignments. Carman was a devoted wife and mother and she and Bill had been married almost 67 years prior to his death in 2017.
Carman was known for her resourcefulness and creativity. She was an accomplished cook, baker, cake decorator, seamstress, knitter, quilter, upholsterer, and gardener. Though she had a sophisticated appreciation of literature and culture, her primary focus was on family and the fundamentals of life. Carman was loving, caring, insightful, and even-tempered, and provided invaluable guidance and support to her loved ones. She was practical, both in terms of managing a large family and addressing life's challenges, and was loath to compromise her admirable principles for convenience or expediency. Carman was quick to laugh, enjoyed clever wordplay, and looked forward to learning new things each day. Carman was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and will be truly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her son, Michael, of Bartlesville; daughter, Tamara Hindman, of Oglesby, Oklahoma; son, Joseph, of Ridgecrest, California; and adopted son, Ross, of Bartlesville; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill; and her sons, David and Steven.
