Mary Jo Luton

We mourn the loss of Mary Jo Luton, 75, a multi-talented and caring mother, born on February 7, 1949, in Nowata, Oklahoma, to Wesley William Albert and Geneveve Josephine (Hash) Albert. Mary passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2024, at the Ascension St John Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, OK.

Mary grew up in the Nowata area. She married Stanley Williams I in 1968. The couple had 5 children together: Traci, Stanley, Scott, Frank, and Billy. They later divorced. Mary went on to marry Thomas James Luton on September 2, 1978, in Altus, OK. The couple were happily married for many years before Tom’s passing.

Mary worked as a homemaker, tending to her children and maintaining her home. She was a woman of many talents including being a gifted gardener of anything that grows in the dirt, an exceptional crocheter, an amazing crafter of anything that she set her mind to doing, a talented cake decorator, and a great cook who could make something from nothing. After Mary’s momma passed, she took up quilting to finish all the quilts for the great-grandchildren that still needed them.

In her free time, Mary loved being outside as much as she could. Typically, she could be found working in her flower beds or her vegetable garden. One of the highlights of her summers was going fishing with her brother, Larry. She was a member of the Nowata Seventh Day Adventist Church, where she served selflessly. She loved Jesus with her whole heart and never missed an opportunity to tell others. Mary will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband: Tom Luton; her parents: Wesley and Josephine Albert; and her brothers: Donnie Albert, Benjamin Albert, and Johnny Albert.

Those left to cherish the memory of Mary include her children: Traci Triplett and husband, Kenny of Cambridge, KS, Stanley Williams II of Winfield, KS, Scott Williams and wife, Jennifer of Leon, KS, Frank Williams and wife, Saundra of Burden, KS, and Billy Williams and wife, Angie of Walnut Grove, MO; her siblings: Allen Albert of Nowata, OK, Sherry Laughlin of Nowata, OK, Sandy Bucheck of Nowata, OK, and Larry Albert and wife, Ginger of Nowata, OK; her grandchildren: Alicia Tripler and Norma, Laici Nelson and husband, Cody, Dakota Triplett, Eden Williams, Kayla Williams, Taylor Williams, Tristan Williams, Austin Williams, Breanna Williams, Devin Williams, and Jessica Tanner; her great-grandchildren: Hope, Emma Rose, Noah, Kali, John, Axell, Colbi, Finley, Emma Grace, Liberty, and Braylon with 2 other great grandchildren on the way; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
