Mary Shults

Mary Lou Shults, 77-year-old Nowata resident, passed away Friday, May 14, 2010 at the Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville. Mrs. Shults was born June 8, 1932 in Okemah, Oklahoma to William Bradley Meadors and Mary Ethel Reed-Meadors. She grew up and attended schools in Bearden, Oklahoma. On April 21, 1951, she married Lon Richard Shults in Bearden. The two later relocated to the Nowata area where Mrs. Shults served the Nowata County Government from 1970 until 1995 in the Assessor's and Court Clerk's Offices. Mrs. Shults enjoyed cooking the Wednesday night meals for the First Baptist Church for numerous years. She loved life and always had a smile on her face that had a special way of making everyone happy. Mrs. Shults is survived by her husband, Lon of the home; by one son, Richard Wayne Shults and wife Debbie of Nowata; by two grandchildren, Matthew Shults and wife Melinda of Owasso, and Kimberly Shults of Nowata. She was preceded in death by her parents; by one son, Gary Lee Shults; and by three sisters, Louise Combs, Geneva Cheatwood, and Ailene Sutherlin. Funeral services for Mrs. Shults will be held at 2:00p.m., Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Nowata with Rev. Ralph Dersham officiating. Interment will follow in the Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery. The family has asked that those who wish to make a memorial contribution in memory of Mrs. Shults, please remember the 10-33 Wheelchair Van, 321 E Cherokee, Nowata, OK 74048.
