Marybelle Thomas

Marybelle Beecher was born on May 5, 1926 to Charles E. Beecher and Olga A. (Elifritz) Beecher. She received her schooling in Bartlesville and is a graduate of Bartlesville's College High. She attended the University of Colorado in Boulder and received her B.A. degree. Marybelle and Robert Vincent Thomas were united in marriage on September 4, 1948 in Bartlesville and moved to Idaho Springs, Colorado. Robert preceded her in death on September 12, 1952, upon his death, Marybelle returned to Bartlesville with her young sons. She had been a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Bartlesville for 75+ years. Other memberships and services include Bartlesville Public Library Board, Hillcrest Country Club, Bartlesville Service League, CASA, Guardian AD Litum, and Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority for 60+ years. Marybelle followed her mother becoming a member of the same P.E.O. Chapter CH-OK in 1953 and served as Chapter President (1999-2001). She was also a member of the Oklahoma Retired Teachers Association. Along with being active in these organizations, she taught for 31 years at the following elementary schools: Jane Phillips, Southview and McKinley. She served as Principal at Southview during her tenure. Many of her fellow teachers, former students and their parents remember her fondly.
