Mavis Jarvis

December 16, 1934 — October 2, 2021

Mavis Laverne Jarvis, of Claremore, passed away at her home on October 2, 2021. She was born December, 16, 1934, to Orval Henry Starnes and Nanna Belle (Nichols) Starnes. Mavis was a graduate of Coffeyville, Kansas High School and continued her education at the University of Tulsa where she earned a Bachelor’s in Education and a Masters in School Administration.

Mavis was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was very active in her church and served on the Missions Board, cooking for church dinners, was a tutor for the reading program, cooking for and serving the homeless and serving her church in any way she could. Mavis enjoyed watching sports and especially enjoyed watching TU. Above all she loved her family. She loved caring for and playing with her great grandson as well as cooking for family get togethers.  Mavis had a special place in her heart forall of her family members and will be remembered by all who knew her.

Preceding Mavis Jarvis in death are her parents, Orval and Nanna Belle Starnes; husband, Bill Lee Jarvis; and a brother, Ronald Gene Starnes.

Mavis is survived by her sons, Michael Jarvis and wife Lois, Bill Jarvis Jr. and Nijee Hassan;  Grandchildren Brandon Michael Jarvis and Maranda Talley, Brandi Jarvis, and William Galyean and wife April;  great grandsons, Braden Michael Jarvis and Walker Galyean;  sisters Barbara Bowen and Debra Sue Starnes; and many other relatives and a host of friends.

A graveside funeral service for Mavis will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery, Nowata, Oklahoma, with Pastor Debra Sue Starnes officiating. Services are under the direction of Benjamin Funeral Service of Nowata. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations to be made in Mavis's honor to either the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or Christ United Methodist Church in Tulsa, OK.
