Melba Powel

March 3, 1934 — February 21, 2015

Benjamin Funeral Service - Nowata, Oklahoma............................... Francine Powell, 80, of Nowata, went to be with her lord and savior on Saturday February 21, 2015. She was surrounded by her family when she left this earth, and what a legacy she leaves behind. Born Melba Francine Forehand on March 3, 1934 in Earle, Arkansas, she was a beloved mother, grandmother and aunt, and a dear friend to many. Francine was a devoted member of Hillside Christian Church in Nowata, a member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, past Worthy Matron of the Order of Amaranth and past Worthy Matron of Order of the Eastern Stars. Francine touched the lives of countless people with her kindness and generosity. She had a smile and a hug for everyone she met and made them feel better just for knowing her. She always took the time to visit those who were sick and never hesitated to help those in need. At times, that required sacrifice, but Francine didn't hesitate. Quietly and humbly she would give of herself and never expect a thing in return. Her laugh was infectious and her grace was unforgettable. A graduate of Earle High School, Francine married Jack Powell in 1958. They were together until the day she died, inseparable best friends and husband and wife for 56 years. Jack and Francine had three children, Sharri, Robb and Clark. In 1992, Sharri died at the age of 33 due to complications from heart surgery. Now, Francine and Sharri, mother and daughter, are rejoined among the angels. Her legacy of love lives on in her husband Jack, of Nowata, her brother David Forehand, of Earle, Arkansas, her son Robb of Boise, Idaho, her son Clark, and only grandchild, Grant, both of Dublin, Ohio. Francine lived a selfless life in service to others, and in her death we're reminded of our opportunity to do the same. The Powell family will receive friends Tuesday, February 24 between 6 - 8 p.m. at Benjamin Funeral Home, 114 West Cherokee Ave. Nowata, OK, (918) 273-2700. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, February 25 at Hillside Christian Church, 1348 West Davis Drive, Nowata, followed by graveside services at Nowata Cemetery. Online condolences maybe left at www.honoringmemories.com.
