Mendel West

Mendel Eugene West, age 73, died Saturday December 18, 2010 in St. John's Hospital in Tulsa, Ok. Mendel Eugene West was born the son of Floyd Clifford West and Dorothy Genieva (Tippit) West in Lenapah, Oklahoma on January 20, 1937. He was raised and educated in NE Oklahoma. Mendel served in the United States Army in Hawaii from 1959 - 1962. Upon his return form the service Mendel was united in marriage with Henrietta Burris in Miami, Ok on March 16, 1962. Mendel was a truck driver by trade and continued to drive throughout his 30 years in the ministry with the Church of God. The family lived in many places before returning to the South Coffeyville area. Mendel was a member of the Lewark Church of God. He enjoyed fishing and drinking coffee with his buddies. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren especially. He will be dearly missed. Mendel is survived by his wife, Henrietta West of the home, two children Melinda Shipman and her husband Jimmie of Coffeyville, Ks and Chris West and his wife Michelle of Coffeyville, Ks, three grandchildren, Allison, Cody and Alexis all of Coffeyville, Ks, four brothers, Jim West of Coweta, Ok, Lee West of Copan, Ok, Larry West of Coffeyville, Ks and John West of Carthage, Mo, one sister, Cheryl Talman of Grove, Ok and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. West will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at the Lewark Church of God in Coffeyville, Ks. Rev. Ernie Wright of the Lewark Church of God will preside over the services, with interment to follow in the Restlawn Cemetery. Funeral services are under the direction of the Benjamin Funeral Home.
