Funeral services for Michael Wade McGinnis will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 6, 2012 at Benjamin Funeral Service Chapel. Burial will follow at the Scott Cemetery, Craig County, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Benjamin Funeral Service, of Nowata. Michael Wade McGinnis, 70, of Nowata, passed from this life Sunday September 2, 2012 at Jane Phillips Nowata Health Center. He was born January 2, 1942 in Muskogee, Oklahoma, to Malcom D. and Johnnie C. (Ervin) McGinnis. He was educated in Muskogee, Arkansas, and Tulsa. On January 10, 1966 he married the love of his life, Twyla Murphy in Miami, Oklahoma. They made their home in the Nowata area where they raised their family. Mike worked as a heavy equipment operator until his retirement from Bellco and APAC. He enjoyed working on classic cars and attending car shows. He loved to garden and take care of his yard. He had a passion for animals and would always try and help any animal that was in need. He had a very kind heart and an endearing heart for his wife, children, and grandchildren. He will be missed by all who knew him. Preceding Mr. McGinnis in death are his parents, Malcom and Johnnie McGinnis, and siblings Phillip Bradley, Margaret Moore, and Joan Doran. Survivors include his wife Twyla, of the home; a son Michael S. Gilland and wife Penni, of Claremore; two daughters, Johnnie Perkins and husband Bill, of Wann, Oklahoma, Angie Mattix and husband Ron, of Nowata; grandchildren Kaleena Gilliand, Brandy Boran, Nathan Perkins, Carressa Gledhill, Jaime Gledhill, Corey Gledhill; one great grandchild, McKenzie Perkins; siblings, Claudia Bradley, of Colorado, Johnny McGinnis, of Texas, Sammie Holden, of Texas; many other relatives and a host of friends. The family suggests donations to the Nowata Animal Shelter or the John 3:16 mission in Tulsa. Online condolences may be left at www.honoringmemories.com
