Neva Oretta (Highfield) Hicks 93 went home to her Lord, on September 12, 2021. She was born on October 21, 1927, to Carl and Myrtle (McMullin) Hillburn. She attended Nowata High School. She married Otis Mitchell and they shared many years together until he passed away in 1954. They Cherished one daughter together Rita Mitchell. She later married Paul Highfield in 1955 and cherished over thirty-two years together until he past away in 1988. They had one son together Darrell Highfield. Later in life, Neva married Vernon Hicks on July 18, 2003, and shared fourteen years together until his passing in 2017.

Neva was an activity coordinator for the Hays House and Osage Nursing home for many years. Most of all her favorite job was being a housewife and taking care of her family. She loved taking her sisters to Branson, Missouri on a weekend getaway and going to Texas for the winter. Her hobbies included, being active in the First Church of God, going out on the town, visiting, and playing dominos with her friends. Neva had a fun, outgoing personality in which people gravitated to her. She always had a great sense of humor and a smile on her face. She never met a stranger and was always willing to share a story to you or give you a good laugh. Neva enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Her greatest accomplishment was her family, whom she loved unconditionally and always made sure their needs were met. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Neva is preceded in death by her parents; Carl and Myrtle Hilburn, three siblings; Nerine Kulchinski, Daisy Brown, Violet Middlebusher, and husbands; Otis Mitchell, Paul Highfield, and Vernon Hicks Sr.

Survivors include her two children; Rita Hemphill and husband Charles of Nowata, OK, Darrell Highfield of Tulsa, OK, and three grandchildren; Kara Highfield, Derek Highfield, Denton Highfield and many other relatives, and a host of friends.

There will be a visitation from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday September 15, 2021, at Benjamin Funeral Service Nowata, Oklahoma. Graveside service for Neva Hicks will be held at 10:00a.m., Thursday, September 16, 2021, at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Nowata, Oklahoma with Pastor Wendell Abbott officiating.
