Paul Eugene Ames, 78, of Lenapah, Oklahoma died September 6, 2021, in Coffeyvlle, Kansas. He was born May 30, 1943, in the Wymer Community of Nowata County, to Alfred Vernon and Maggie Jewell (Howe) Ames. Paul married the love of his life Reta Kathlene Waltrip on July 11, 1962. He was a self-employed man working mostly as a welder and mechanic. He was a hard-working man and did whatever he needed to care for his family. He had a very strong work ethic which he passed on to his children. Paul enjoyed fishing, hunting, and caring for his cows, dogs, and cats. He loved telling stories to his children and grandchildren and was known as a great storyteller. Above all he loved his family. His wife, children, grandchildren, and other family members held a special place in his heart. Paul will be missed by all who knew him.
Preceding Paul in death are his parents, Alfred, and Maggie Ames, one daughter, Susan Franco; one granddaughter, Crystal Dawn Ames; and siblings, Vernon Ames, Tom Ames, Edith Copeland, and Janieve Duncan.
Survivors include his wife Reta, of the home; children Janieve Rodriguez and husband Douglas of Herington, Kansas, Michael Paul Ames and wife Cristina of Nowata, Vernon Dwayne of Lenapah; 21 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Lawrence, and Reva Vaughn; many other relatives and a host of friends.
Services for Paul Ames will be held 10 am Friday September 10, 2021, at the Benjamin Funeral Service. A visitation will be held Thursday, September 9, 2021, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Benjamin Funeral Home.
