Paul Buzzard

July 11, 1925 — October 1, 2010

Paul Edward Buzzard, age 85, went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday October 1, 2010 at Grove Integris Hospital after a three year battle with Alzheimer's disease. Paul was born on July 11, 1925 in Eucha, Oklahoma to John Buzzard and Thelma Robinson. Paul's dad died when he was only four years old so he obtained most of his education at Indian Boarding Schools including Oaks and Sequoyah Indian schools. He also attended Gray School. Paul primarily worked as a long distance truck driver traveling across the United States. The last 21 years of his working career were spent working at an aide at Eastern State Hospital Vinita, Oklahoma. He retired from the State of Oklahoma when he was 59 years old. Paul married Clara Jean Pope on April 14, 1943 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. They recently celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. Paul and his wife lived in Washington State for approximately 15 years. They moved back to Oklahoma in 1966 and lived on his father's original Indian allotment of land up until the time of his death. Paul was very proud of his Cherokee Heritage and wanted his family to share in that pride. He also enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, photography, singing and playing the guitar. He mostly enjoyed spending time with his family. Paul accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior when he was 60 years old and gave up his long-time alcohol addiction at that time and never turned back. Paul could be considered a Jack-of-all-trades. He was an excellent carpenter, plumber, auto mechanic and electrician without formerly being taught those trades; he taught himself. At the age of 75, Paul taught himself how to use a personal computer by reading a lot of books on the subject. When his grandson, Derek was stationed in Italy, Paul taught himself how to use e-mail so he could communicate with him. Paul's generosity and kind heart will forever be remembered by his family and friends. Anytime he became aware that someone was in need, he was the first to show up to offer help. Paul never had the opportunity to finish his education but he was determined all his children were going to finish their education and as a result all his children went to college. Paul lived his life with honesty and integrity. He never wanted anything he couldn't earn himself. Paul is survived by his wife Clara Jean Buzzard; his three daughters and son-in laws; Sue and Dave Boucke of Placerville, California; Jennita and Dennis Brown of Grove, Oklahoma and Linda and Mack Bingham of Eucha, Oklahoma. Eight grandchildren; five grandsons, Sean and Jason Cambern; Justin and Derek Bingham and Brandon Brown. Four granddaughters, Thressa Tate Brown, Heather Cross, Sarah Buzzard and Sasha Wyatt. Twenty on great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. Paul was preceded in death by his two sons, Paul Edward Buzzard Jr. and Michael Dale Buzzard. He will be deeply missed by all his loved ones. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel in Jay, Oklahoma. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 7, 2010 at the Disney Assembly of God Church with Pastor Daryl Lee officiating. Serving as casket bearers will be Derek Bingham, Zane Zuber, Brandon Brown, Kane Wyatt and Justin Bingham. Paul will be laid to rest at the Yellow Tree Cemetery in Eucha, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home of Jay, Oklahoma. Friends and family may leave online condolences by viewing Paul's obituary at www.honoringmemories.com.
