Phyllis Jean (PJ) Salters went on to heaven at her residence on April 17, 2020 in Grove, OK at the age of 84. Phyllis is survived by her sons, Mike Smith/wife Teresa Main, Rod Smith/wife, Pam Smith, Jim Smith, Fred Smith/wife Sonya Smith, Kenny Smith/wife Jani Smith, 18 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren and her brother Don Gegen. She is preceded in death by her sisters, Edith Smernoff and Loretta Gegen, her father Fred Gegen and mother Rose Gegen.
Phyllis was born on April 30, 1935 in Wichita, Kansas to Fred and Rose Gegen. She graduated high school in Wichita, KS. Phyllis began working for Cessna Aircraft in Wichita, KS and later moved to Harper, KS where she worked for Welch Machine Shop for many years. She retired and moved to the Arkansas/Oklahoma area around 2005. Her children remember her as a strong and loving mother who taught them to be independent and pursue their goals in life and value their family.
Phyllis was an avid crafter and often travelled to craft fairs to display and sell her crafts along with her sister Edith. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved her family and spending time with them. Her hobbies throughout life included spending time at various lakes fishing and boating, playing bingo, crafting in her earlier years and visiting casinos from Vegas to Tunica.
Memorial services will be held at a later date for family and close friends. Time and date are to be determined.
