Rachel Potter-Barker, 84, departed this life on February 4, 2009 at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Missouri. Rachel was born on January 16, 1925 to Vern & Mabel (Alumbaugh) Henley at Jay, Oklahoma. She attended and graduated school from Jay High School, Jay, Oklahoma. She was united in marriage to Leonard Potter on March 15, 1942 at Siloam Springs, Arkansas. They moved to Orange, California where they lived for a year, then returned to Jay, Oklahoma. In 1948, they relocated to Guymon, Oklahoma where they lived and raised their four children. After 42 years, they moved to Grove, Oklahoma where they were members of the First Baptist Church of Grove. Rachel enjoyed the years they spent traveling to different small communities building missions with Campers on Mission. Rachel lost her loving and devoted husband of 52 years in 1996. Rachel met Vestal Barker where they attended the First Baptist Church of Grove and were members of the same Sunday School class. They began attending functions together in 1999 and were united in marriage in the year 2000. They enjoyed their almost nine years together traveling and enjoying friends. Rachel was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leonard, one son Burl, four brothers and one sister, four brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law. She is survived by husband Vestal Barker of the home, one son Bruce Potter and wife JoAnn of Weatherford, Ok; two daughters, Carolyn Brewer and husband Roy of Castroville, Tx. and Barbara Campbell and husband Tim of Guymon, Ok. and one daughter-in-law Pat Potter of Northglenn, Colorado; eleven grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren; one sister Helen Lacefield of Grove, Ok.; four sisters-in-law Esther Henley, and Betty Dick of Grove, Dona Woods, of Jay and Jean Giles of Rapid City, South Dakota; four brothers-in-law, Tarleton Dick of Grove, Delbert Youngblood and Howard Woods of Jay, and Jim Giles of Rapid City, South Dakota and numerous other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, February 6, 2009 at First Baptist Church of Grove with Pastor James Wilder officiating. Burial will follow at Olympus Cemetery. Family visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Grand Lake Baptist Assembly Campground or Campers On Mission in care of the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.honoringmemories.com.
