Robert Johnston

Luginbuel Funeral Home of Vinita, 918-256-5555 Robert Herman "Bob" Johnston, 89 year old long time rural Vinita resident, passed away on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at the Claremore Veterans Center. He was born on January 25, 1927 in Leach, Oklahoma to George Oliver and Ollie Lee (Welch) Johnston. Bob served his country in the United States Army at the end of World War II. Bob was united in marriage Rose Mary Minson on July 29, 1950 in Vinita at the First Church of God. He attended college at Northeastern State in Tahlequah and was a teacher for 2 years. Bob worked for Sinclair Oil Company for about 8 years, then came to the Vinita to work with his father in-law Albert Minson on his dairy farm. He eventually took ownership of the dairy farm and ran it until 1979, at that time he went to a beef cattle operation and has continued that operation to the present. Bob enjoyed quail hunting and fishing (especially eating the fish). He was an active member of the Otterbein Methodist Church near Langley. Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother, J. W. Johnston, a sister, Wynona Rich, sister in-law, Onelda Johnston and his daughter in-law, Susan (Rankin) Johnston. The surviving family includes; his wife of 65 ½ years Rose Mary Johnston; his four sons, David Johnston and wife Vanessa of Aurora, Missouri, Kevin Johnston and wife Linda of Jenks, Mark Johnston and wife Diane of Vinita, Keith Johnston of Big Cabin; a brother Dewayne Johnston and wife Sue of Inola; a sister, Ethel Lee Rogers of Pryor; eleven grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Friday, February 12, 2016 at the Luginbuel Funeral Home in Vinita. The funeral will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 10:00 AM in the Luginbuel Chapel in Vinita. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Vinita.
