Roscoe Eugene Hanes, eighty-six-year-old, long-time Claremore resident, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2019, in Catoosa.

Roscoe was born November 4, 1933, in Vinita, to Lester and Alma (Johnson) Hanes.  He married Shirley Jane Montgomery on December 1, 1951, in Vinita.  After moving around the state, having four children along the way, they settled in Claremore.   Roscoe and Shirley were members of First Baptist Church in Claremore.

In his younger years, Roscoe lived for going to the lake, fishing and boating on the weekends.  Later in life, he enjoyed watching old John Wayne movies, going to Gaither Family Gospel Concerts with Shirley, and working in his yard.  He was an avid gardener.

As a fifty-year veteran of the grocery business, Roscoe managed a number of Safeway/Homeland stores.  In 1989, he was named Homeland’s “Manager of the Year”.  He was selected from a field of over one hundred managers from Oklahoma, Texas, and Kansas.  Roscoe left the company for a few years, owning his own 7-11 Convenience store franchise, but returned to Homeland, and worked there until his retirement.

Roscoe was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and his wife of sixty-seven years.  His surviving family includes his children, Randy Hanes and wife Edie of Verdigris.  Rick Hanes and wife Debbie of Wagoner, Keith Hanes and wife Carla of Broken Arrow, and Sharon Hanes, also of Broken Arrow.  He also leaves behind eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday June 18, 2019 at 11:00 AM in the Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel in Vinita, OK, with Pastor Sam Nichols officiating.  A visitation will commence on Monday June 17, 2019 from 6:00 PM thru 8:00 PM in the Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel in Vinita, OK. Burial will follow immediately after the Funeral Service at Fairview Cemetery.
