Ross Vernon Melton, 97, of Locust Grove, Oklahoma, passed away on September 22, 2024. He was born October 17, 1926, to Vernon James Melton and Etta (Mayfield) Melton. He lived and was educated in Alluwe, Oklahoma. Ross enlisted in the United States Army on July 31, 1945, and served in the European Theater of Operations, in WWII, as well as the Korean War.
Ross was a welder by trade and worked for the City of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, for over 30 years and retired in 1987. In 1967 he married Ann Goodin Melton. They were married until she passed away years later. Ross enjoyed reading western books as well as fishing and hunting. He loved his dogs and spending time playing with them. He loved gardening and raising tomatoes for his family and friends. Ross could fix anything. He was a jack of all trades. Above all he loved his family. They looked at him as their hero, and he had a special place in his heart for them. Ross Melton will be missed by all that knew him.
Preceding Ross Melton in death are his parents Vernon and Etta Melton, his wife, Ann Melton, siblings, Paul Melton, Jimmy Jack Melton, Phillip Melton, and Sherry Ross. Survivors include his sons Lee Goodin, John Goodin, Eddie Goodin, grandchildren, Tennison Shea, and Addison Marie Shea, many other relatives, and a host of friends.
Visitation for Ross Melton will be held 3 – 5 pm, at Benjamin Funeral Service, 114 W. Cherokee, Nowata, Ok. 74048, on Sunday, September 29, 2024. Graveside services for Mr. Melton will be 2 pm, Monday, September 30, 2024, at Relocated Cemetery, in Nowata, Ok. Services are under the direction of Benjamin Funeral Service of Nowata.
