Funeral services for Ruby Allene Hughes are 10:00 A.M., Friday, August 28, 2015 at Benjamin Funeral Service Chapel with Ben Killion officiating. Interment will follow at Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery. Family will receive friends Thursday, August 27, 2015 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Benjamin Funeral Service. Ruby Allene Hughes passed away Saturday, August 22, 2015 at Jane Phillips Nowata Health Center. She was born December 3, 1929 in Childers to George and Cora (Adamson) Lopeman. Allene grew up in Childers and attended Childers school. She married the love of her life, Jack L. Hughes in August of 1947 at Neosho, Missouri. Allene was a lifelong resident of the Nowata area. She worked in the Nowata Schools cafeteria 20 years; in the concession stand of both the Sky-Vu Drive In and Rex Theaters and for both the Snodgrass and Archer Cleaners. Allene was a member of Hillside Christian Church and Home Extension Club. She loved to cook and take care of her family and was well known for her pot roast, beans & cornbread and iced tea. Allene is survived by three children, Mary Crosetto and husband Larry of Coffeyville, Leroy Hughes and wife Pam of Nowata, Pamela Spencer of Nowata; three sisters, Lorraine Corle of Chelsea, Eva Jane Green of Childers, Ruby Collier of Nowata; four brothers, Lou Hicks, Vernon Hicks, and Paul Hicks all of Nowata, Ancil Hicks of Tyro, KS, eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jack; two sons, Kenneth Hughes, Jackie Don Hughes; two half - brothers Albert and Floyd Briggs, four brothers, four sisters, a granddaughter and a great granddaughter. Memorials in Allene's name may be made to the Cornerstone Building Fund or the Boys and Girls Club of Nowata. Online condolences may be left at www.honoringmemories.com.
