Rubye Highfield

Rubye Pearl Highfield passed away Sunday, June 16, 2013 at the Nowata Nursing Center. She was born March 16, 1920 in Delaware to Myrtle Iola (Culton) and Robert Marion Franklin. Rubye graduated from Delaware High School and from there she went to Tri County Tech to get her Dietician Certificate. Rubye married Eugene J. Wood on May 2, 1941 in Pawhuska. He preceded her in death on July 6, 1952. She then married LeRoy Arnold Highfield on May 6, 1955 in Delaware and he preceded her in death on March 28, 1965. Rubye was a lifetime Delaware resident and a member of the Delaware Methodist Church where she loved to quilt with the ladies group there. She was a member of the Women's Society of Christian Service, and was at the church anytime something was going on there. Ruby loved to travel and care for her yard and flower gardens. She mowed her own lawn until she was 90 years old. She loved caring for and cooking for her family. The time she was able to spend with her husbands, children, and grandchildren were held very close to her heart. She loved people and would do anything for any one in need. She will be missed by many. Rubye is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Myrtle Franklin; husbands, Eugene J. Wood and LeRoy Arnold Highfield; a son, Jackie Eugene Wood; two brothers, Raymond Franklin and Carl Franklin. She is survived by a daughter, Velda Birdsong and husband Vern of Springfield, CO; two grandchildren, Geanine Moyer and husband Max of Columbia, MO and DR. Rick Birdsong and wife Cindy of Springfield, CO; five great grandchildren Cody Birdsong and wife Taylor, Cole Birdsong, Amanda Birdsong and husband Wyatt, Chad Goodson, Kyle Goodson; three step grandchildren, Jeff Moyer, Scott Moyer, Eric Moyer; two great - great grandchildren, Harmonee Birdsong, and Embry Phipps. Funeral services for Rubye are 2:00 P.M., Friday, June 21, 2013 at the Benjamin Funeral Service Chapel with Minister Jerry Coldren officiating. Interment will follow at Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery.
