Shirley Marie (Hester) Reed, longtime resident of Nowata, passed away at age 79 at her home Friday, surrounded by her family.

She was born June 20, 1939 in Alluwe, OK, to Frank and Agnes Hester. She attended and graduated school from Childers, OK.

She married Robert Burkart and had three children Shirley Johns, Janice Copeland and Bobby Burkart. Later in life, she married William (Bill) Ellis and they had one son, Bill Ellis. From this marriage, Shirley also gained three stepdaughters; Denise Waite, Debbie Woolery and Cheryl Collier.

She later married Harold Mayfield of Oologah, OK, with present marriage to Horace Reed of the home.

Shirley enjoyed gardening, ranching, garage sales, and shopping for good bargains. Mom always said, “Well it’s the truth!” She had a heart of gold and always put others first. She especially loved spending time with her family and made sure they were always taken care of.

She was proceeded in death by her former husbands’ William (Bill) Ellis, Harold Mayfield and one son, Bill Ellis and granddaughter, Courtney Ellis.

Shirley is survived by her husband Horace Reed of the home; three children Shirley Johns of Nowata, OK, Janice Copeland and husband Ken of Bartlesville, OK, Bobby Burkart of Nowata, OK; three stepdaughters; Denise Waite, Debbie Woolery, Cheryl Collier;  grandchildren Rex Jacobs and wife Danielle of Claremore, OK, Mickey Miller and wife Katie of Jenks, OK, Matt Miller of Denver, Colorado; great grandchildren: Andrew Jacobs, Alisha Jacobs, Wyatt Jacobs, Wade Jacobs, Dalton Jacobs, Destiny Jacobs, Marco Miller, Lacey Barnes, Kelsey Farley, Lana Woolrey, Jana Woolrey, Rowdy Waite, Cody Waite; great great-grandchildren: Kaden and Jade and many other family and friends. She will be missed by all who knew her.
