Terry Lee Mattix

Terry Lee Mattix, known to many as “Chigger” passed away April 3rd, 2025 and leaves behind many family and friends who loved and admired him. Terry was born in Nowata on March 27th, 1950 and lived in Nowata nearly all of his life. He was a 1968 graduate of Nowata High School. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his friends and family. Terry was a volunteer firefighter with the Nowata fire department for over 25 years and was employed by the Harmon Foundation for the past 35 years. He worked hard tending his cattle, haying, and gardening at his farm. Terry is survived by his wife of 40 years, Kathy Mattix. His son Dusty Mattix and wife Devon of Nowata. His sister Sharon Mattix Stevens and husband Mike Stevens of Texarkana, Kansas. Stepsons Kevin White and his wife Rachelle of Nowata. Andy Fuller of Nowata. Granddaughters, Jacey Mattix, Drewcyla Fuller, & Liberty Belden. Grandsons, Steven & Riley Fuller. Great granddaughters, Kenlyn & Kaida Fuller. Aunts, Kay Cody Of Nowata and Earlene Mattix of Oglesby, Ok. Many cousins and lifelong friends and honorary family member Chester Grissom. Terry was preceded in death by his father C.L. “Skeet” Mattix and mother Mary Louise Mattix. A memorial service in celebration of Chigger’s life will be held on April 12th at Living Word Church, with the Rev. Steven Cody officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Nowata Volunteer Fire Department or a donation of choice.
