Thais Hair

April 27, 1945 — June 3, 2012

Thais Louise Hair went to be with our Lord on June 3, 2012. She died at St. John's in Tulsa, after a short battle of pneumonia with complications from post-polio syndrome. Thais was born in Miami, OK on April 27, 1945 to Merle and Mary Hair. She grew up in Bartlesville and attended Jefferson Elementary between her surgeries and treatment for polio, which she contracted at the age of 14 months. Thais, at the age of three, was the poster child for the March of Dime's polio awareness campaign. She was such a strong young woman and never let polio get her down. She continued her education attending Central Jr. High, before graduating from College High School in 1963. Following high school, Thais obtained her bachelor's degree at OCW (college) in Chickasha, OK, where she was an active member of the Be Si Ta Sorority. Upon her college graduation, she became an area manager for the Girl Scout Organization in Muskogee, OK and Omaha, Nebraska. This was a natural fit for Thais as, most of her life, she, along with her entire family, were involved with the scouting programs of this community. Later, she moved back to the Bartlesville community and was employed by TG&Y before beginning in the banking business. She retired two years ago for Arvest, where she had most recently worked at their Owasso branch. Thais loved to sing and belonged to the school choirs from junior high thru her years at OCW (college) in Chickasha. She also loved making puzzles and doing various craft projects, but her most enjoyment was playing cards and having fun e-mailing, playing games, and placing orders on her computer. The UPS drivers enjoyed her ordering practices too, as she almost always shared with them her favorite chocolate treats as a small "thank you". Thais will be missed by her close neighbors and friends, as even some of the neighborhood children had come to know her as AUNT THAIS. She was preceded in death by her parents; Merle Howard Hair and Mary Louise (Thornburg) Hair and her nephew, Benjamin Gordon Hair. She is survived by her brother and his wife, Gordon and Brenda Hair of Charlottesville, VA. and many friends including, her long-time caregiver and closest friend, Theresa Dunlap. Memorial Donations may be made to the Benjamin Hair-Just Swim For Life Foundation by visiting www.BH-JSL.org. A gathering for family and friends will take place at 7:00 pm, Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at the Neekamp-Luginbuel Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left at www.honoringmemories.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Arnold Moore Funeral Home.
