He grew up in Nowata receiving his education there and Tri County Tech in Bartlesville.  He played in the Nowata Ironman Band and participated in the sports program.  He was active in the Nowata County 4H program winning many blue ribbons for his projects. He achieved a first place win in the state 4H Public Speaking contest when he spoke on “Gun Safety and Responsible Ownership”. As a child and teen ager he loved the family & friends boating and lake adventures. He enjoyed his participation in Boy Scouts from his early years and played Little League Baseball from 5 yrs old through his sophomore year. In school   he especially loved his woodworking class taught by Mr. Ed Creech.  He made several furniture items that are still being used and enjoyed by his family today. His ability and love of working with wood came to him naturally from his maternal grandfather William R. Barnes, who encouraged and helped him develop his talents that formed his career as a sought after Trim Carpenter in the Tulsa area. He enjoyed that work until a massive heart attack in 2017 forced an early retirement from the field that brought him so much pride and joy. Throat cancer in 2021 caused him to continue to decline and limit his life activities.

He and Carol were members of the Ridge Crest Baptist Church in East Tulsa.
