Virginia Pierce, 78 year old Nowata resident passed away Friday, February 6, 2009 at her home. Funeral services for Mrs. Pierce will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 11, 2009 in the Hillside Christian Church in Nowata with Rev. Ben Killion and Rev. John Presko officiating. Final committal rites will be accorded Mrs. Pierce in the Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Benjamin Funeral Home. Visitation for Mrs. Pierce will be held on Monday, February 9th and Tuesday, February10th from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Benjamin Funeral Home in Nowata. The family request for those who wish to make memorial contributions to please make them to the 1033 Wheelchair Van, 321 E. Cherokee Ave., Nowata, OK 74048. Virginia was born on October 6, 1930 to Herbert Cecil and Vernie Young Brannan in Nowata, Oklahoma. Virginia received her education in the Nowata School Systems, graduating in 1948. She married John W. Pierce on October 27, 1949 in Nowata, Oklahoma. She worked at the Pioneer Drug Store as a clerk, the Nowata Tag Office and the First National Bank. She retired from the First National Bank in 1981. She enjoyed her grandchildren, camping and fishing at Grand Lack in Bernice, Oklahoma until her health deteriorated. She was preceded in death by her parents Herbert Cecil and Vernie Brannan. She is survived by her husband of 59 years John Pierce of the home, 1 daughter Linda and her husband Gary Kiser of Nowata, 1 son Johnnie and his wife Jenifer Pierce of Nowata, 4 grandchildren Lori Kiser of Nowata, Dustin Kiser of Nowata, Julie (Pierce) and her husband Luke McDonnell of New Castle, IN., and Johnna Pierce of Alva, OK., 3 great grandchildren Braden and Cayman Kiser of Nowata, and Johnie Anne McDonnell of New Castle, IN., 1 sister Florence Hamil of Nowata, 1 brother Fred Brannan and his wife Shirley of Nowata. She also leaves behind many friends and numerous relatives who will miss Virginia, especially her care givers Helen, Lila, Maudie, Cynthia, Connie, Angel, and Stacie.
