Vol Faulkner

Clarence Vol Faulkner, age 86, of Vinita died November 18, 2008 at the Veterans Center in Claremore, OK. He was born August 22, 1922 in Little Rock, Arkansas the son of Charles B. Faulkner and Berdie Jeanette Tyler. The family lived in the Little Rock, AR area where Vol received his education and graduated high school. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He and Ola Faye Kindy were united in marriage September 26, 1942 in Little Rock, AR. After his discharge the family moved to Fayetteville where he attended the University of Arkansas earning his B.S and MS in Education and moved to Lincoln, AR where he began his career as football and basketball coach. He was especially proud the year both girls and boys basketball teams won the state championship. Vol took over as Superintendent of Lincoln Schools until1957 when the family moved to Vinita where he became the High School Principal, Athletic Director and later years as Assistant Superintendent until his retirement in 1988. He and Jo Lee Ballard Letbetter were married on March 23, 1967 in Vinita, later moving to Bernice, OK where he enjoyed woodworking and selling crafts, and crappie fishing. Vol was an active member of the Baptist Church, the OEA and NEA for many years holding offices in both associations, as well as a fifty year member of the Vinita Lions Club, and the Masonic Lodge, he served on the board of Grand Lake Mental Health and Oklahoma State Board of Mental Health. Vol leaves behind his wife of forty one years, Jo Lee Faulkner, four sons, Floyd & Sherry Faulkner of Vinita, Joe and Marsha Faulkner of Nowata, OK, Mark and Janie Letbetter of Owasso, OK, Donnie and Yvonne Letbetter of Denver, CO, three daughters, Jeanette Templeton of Little Rock, AR, Barbara and Tinker Kiser of Stuarts Draft, VA, Christy and Albert Kenworthy of Welch, OK, Thirteen grand children, eighteen great grand children, two brothers, Donald and Susie Louks of Hot Springs, AR, Leslie and Ruth Louks of North Little Rock , AR. He was preceded in death by his by his wife Ola Faye in 1966, his parents, one brother Charles Faulkner, one grand daughter Mary Anna Faulkner. Friends and family will gather Sunday November 23, 2008 from 3:00 till 5:00 p.m. at the Luginbuel Funeral Home. Committal services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday November 26, 2008 at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Luginbuel Funeral Home. Condolences may be left at www.honoringmemories.com.
