Woodrow "Woody" Walker

Woodrow “Woody” Thomas Walker, 82, passed from this life into eternal rest at the OSU Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on the evening of March 23, 2023. Woody was born on December 1, 1940, in Nowata, Oklahoma, to Thomas Woodrow Walker and Ruby Mildred (Standeford) Walker.

Woody was a lifetime Nowata area resident and graduated from Nowata High School in 1959. For many years, Woody drove a truck, working in transportation.

Woody was well-liked in the area and had several interests. In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing, shooting pool, and dancing. For about 15 years, Woody also worked in entertainment as a DJ playing music and providing equipment for karaoke. In his later years, he enjoyed doing leatherwork and teaching himself to paint. Woody was a huge OU football fan and enjoyed watching football whenever he could. He will be missed by all that knew him.

Woody was preceded in death by his parents: Thomas and Ruby Walker; his daughter: Dana Walker; his brother: Donald “Tommy” Griffith; and close friend: Sylvia Shipley.

Those left to cherish the memory of a wonderful man include his son: Woodrow Thomas Walker Jr. of Bethany, OK; his sister: Patricia Pattison of Big Creek, OK;  his step-sister: Joyce Perriman of Nowata, OK; his niece: Lisa Miller and husband, Rick of Delaware, OK, his nephews: Scott Griffith of South Carolina and Tom Pattison of Tulsa, OK; along with a host of relatives and many friends.

A funeral service for Woody will be held on Friday, March 31, 2023, at 2:00 pm at the Benjamin Funeral Service Chapel with Wendell Abbott officiating.
